Egg ‘em on! West Australians get together for Telstra Rally Australia
November 4, 2004
West Australian company Golden Egg Farms is the force behind the largest team to ever compete in Telstra Rally Australia. Rally Teams West is a consortium of 11 Western Australian drivers.
The Golden Egg Rally Team is the result of competitors utilising Western Australian initiative and ingenuity to address the costs of entering a World Rally Championship event. The team wanted to take advantage of the World Rally Championship event run in their own backyard and realised they would need to pool their resources and efforts to mount a significant challenge at Telstra Rally Australia.
Telstra Rally Australia has supported the team since its inception, providing advise and expertise to the team’s planning and development.
"The entire organising team is very supportive of Golden Egg Farms Rally Team," said Adrian Stafford, Telstra Rally Australia’s Clerk of Course.
"We are very proud to at last have a combined Western Australian team competing in this event."
The formation of the Golden Egg Rally Team has boosted Telstra Rally Australia’s entry list, which boasts 68 entrants from around the world.
Notable entries in the team include a family trio of father and sons, Michael, Chris and James Anderson; former Telstra Rally Australia competitor services manager Sally Higgins and Channel Ten Drive Time presenter Tolley Challis.
Tolley Challis is one of only three competitors to have competed in every Rally Australia event since its inception in 1988.
Rally fans can watch their local heroes in action at Telstra Rally Australia from 11 – 14 November. The Gloucester Park Super Special Stage is run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights with tickets starting at $20.
Country stages are run south of Perth around Dwellingup on Friday, east of Perth of Saturday and return south to the famous Sotico (Wespine) complex for a thrilling sporting finish on Sunday. Local crews can be cheered as they cross the finish ramp at a spectacular ceremonial finish at Kings Park overlooking Perth. For more information visit www.rallyaustralia.com.
Think Fast - Think Eggs
The largest team ever to compete in Rally Australia today officially announce a new naming rights sponsor - Golden Egg Farms. To be known as the “Golden Egg Farms Rally Team West” this group of Western Australian competitors will field more high powered rally cars and bring a larger contingent of service personnel to the event than any previous single team.
Announced most appropriately on “World Egg Day” the securing of a Western Australian Company in Golden Egg Farms as the naming rights sponsor for the West Australian team is a significant announcement. A natural synergy exists between eggs and rallying, both normally occur in a country setting and both represent speed, eggs are one of the fastest meals to prepare and rally cars are the fastest vehicles on gravel roads.
Stuart Robertson, Sales & Marketing Manager of Golden Egg Farms, said at the launch “We are very pleased to be involved with Rally Team West at Telstra Rally Australia and look forward to a long and mutually beneficial relationship. Golden Egg Farms wish the team drivers the best of luck!”
Telstra Rally Australia receives significant local and international exposure and with a large number of cars carrying the Golden Egg Farms colours the aim is to capitalize on the available exposure. Notably Golden Egg Farms are the largest exporter of eggs from Australia.
Phil Steele, CEO of Golden Egg Farms said “I’m looking forward to Telstra Rally Australia and the natural synergy of fast cars in the bush and the Fast Meals of eggs. We are proud to be part of the largest ever team to contest Telstra Rally Australia.” Phil will get a real taste for the rally action when he co-drivers for Denis Dunlop in the Telstra Rally Australia Trial Event to be held on Sunday 17 October.
Support for the Golden Egg Farms Rally Team West stems from the efforts of Adrian Stafford, Clerk of Course of Telstra Rally Australia, and Terry Mann. “The entire organising team of Telstra Rally Australia is very supportive of your group (Golden Egg Farms Rally Team West). Personally, I am very proud, as a WA rally person, of your work and that we have at last got a combined West Australian team together for this event.”
The announcement of the team sponsor follows months of work and cooperation amongst the competitors and organisers.
Now the whole West Australian rally fraternity has an opportunity to be part of the action at the gala formal function “Celebrating participation in Telstra Rally Australia 2004”. On the 23rd of October Golden Egg Farms Rally Team West is holding a formal dinner and celebration at the Golden Nugget Room at Gloucester Park East Perth starting at 7.00 pm.
A full meal will be served, several bars will be open to quench your thirst, and fantastic live music will keep you dancing until 1 am. If that's not enough, door prizes are up for grabs and rally memorabilia will be auctioned off. Dress standard is cocktail dress and lounge suit but no sports or team wear as this is a great opportunity to dress up and have a well deserved night off in our preparation for another fabulous World Rally Championship event. Everyone associated with Telstra Rally Australia 2004 is very welcome to participate in this great evening. Early indications are that this will be a sensational evening, well patronised, and it would certainly be best to get in early to ensure your table booking. Tickets are $60.00 each and are available from THE PITSTOP BOOKSHOP on 08 9322 5544 or online at www.pitstop.net.au
